Overview
A modern TV remote can have dozens of buttons, which makes something as simple as changing the channel hard for someone living with dementia. With BMERIT, the University of Calgary's biomedical engineering student team, I developed a simplified programmable remote with just four customizable buttons that work over IR, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
What I built
I designed and integrated the software-hardware interactions using embedded C/C++, TypeScript and React, Git and Bluetooth Low Energy, so the remote, the devices it controls and the setup interface communicate reliably, and setting up what each button does stays simple.
I also built and optimized the front-facing project website and the embedded code for the IR remote system.
